SMART-GIRL, INC., ARAPAHOE/DOUGLAS MENTAL HEALTH NETWORK
ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP
Organization That Empowers Youth Joins Mental Health Agency to Expand Reach

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Englewood, Colo. (Jan 14, 2015) — Smart-Girl, Inc., a Colorado-based organization that empowers youth, announced today that it will has joined the Arapahoe/Douglas Mental Health Network (ADMHN) and become part of their prevention line of services.

“Smart-Girl has truly found a wonderful home in ADMHN. This is an exciting step forward for the organization,” said Shawn Turner, Smart-Girl Board Chair. “Together, we’re going to grow our program and expand our services to impact the lives of even more young girls and boys across Colorado.”

Smart-Girl’s staff will be joining the ADMHN team to oversee the transition and will continue to manage the program.

The two entities began discussions fall of 2014 after realizing there was strong alignment in the two organizations’ missions. This transition provides an opportunity to use resources more efficiently and make a bigger impact on the social and emotional well-being of youth in Colorado.

Founded in 1998, Smart-Girl has worked with approximately 10,000 young people in Colorado, empowering them with the skills needed to become confident, capable and self-reliant young adults. Smart-Girl is a prevention and enrichment program designed to engage middle school girls (and more recently, boys) in activities that develop their social-emotional skills. In a group setting, students are guided through a research based curriculum by trained high school and college aged mentors. Together, students develop healthy responses to the significant challenges they face on a daily basis, and learn how to successfully navigate adolescence and the transition from child to adult.

With this new partnership, Smart-Girl and ADMHN will also work together to expand the programming to more locations throughout the Denver Metro region.

“ADMHN is gaining an extraordinary program in Smart-Girl, and our entire team is thrilled to welcome them to the family. The collective impact possibilities are unlimited,” Joan DiMaria, Executive Director and CEO of ADMHN, said today.
