Board Position Announcement

Smart-Girl is currently looking to expand and diversify our board and committees. Join a dynamic team that guides the work and direction of this amazing organization. As a board and/or committee member, you will gain leadership experience, give back to the community and learn more about teen issues.

Time commitment 2 – 5 hours per month.

Smart-Girl empowers pre-teen and teen girls to make smart choices and become confident, capable and self-reliant young women.

The Smart-Girl program is a prevention and enrichment program that provides girls with a safe place to discuss the challenges of middle school. Near-peer mentors, high school and college age women, are trained to lead the groups. The intensive 22 hour training prepares them to be leaders and role models and entitles them to earn college credit. Through a group mentoring process, girls learn new skills rooted in the theory of social emotional intelligence.  During a Smart-Girl session, the near-peer mentors lead the girls through fun and engaging activities followed by a group discussion.

Smart-Girl gives girls the tools to develop:

  • Confidence and self-worth
  • Self-awareness and empathy
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Leadership ability and group / social skills
  • Attitudes and values that lead to resilience and success in life

A minimum of 16 core sessions in the Smart-Girl curriculum deal with relevant issues, including bullying, peer pressure, mood management, refusal skills, body image, leadership, popularity, respect and ethics. Smart-Girl is also piloting a boys program at this time.

We are looking for members for the Board of Directors and the following committees: Finance, Marketing/Development, Program, and Governance.
